The premise of the book is good...a little black girl is killed inside a locked room in a prison. Who did it? Her white adoptive parents? Her adoptive father is a TV evangelist who took it upon himself to bring a "crusade" to the prison. One of the inmates? If so, how did he get to her? The protagonist of the story is the prison chaplain, who is also a retired police officer. So far, so good, right? However, there is so much back story and wandering away from the point, that I just skipped the middle of the book and read the last 3 chapters to find out "who done it" and why. I don't think I'll read another book in this series.

Blood of the Lamb John Jordan Mysteries Book 2 edition by Michael Lister Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
There is so much going on that you just don't want to put it down. I just kept reading till my eyes hurt and had to stop. These books are a must read.
I was disappointed in the first book in the series but decided to give it a second chance. Glad I did. This is a well-plotted, well written book, illuminating the complex interior of a driven, flawed, and guilt-plagued man. Well done!
After reading Blood of the Lamb, I immediately located his first in the series on , bought it, & began reading. Lister's Jordan, recovering alcoholic prison chaplain, grabs hold of the reader & hangs on, pulling one through his ups & downs through the book. Although it did start a bit slow (reading the first one first may have helped), once I got hooked, I had trouble putting it down.
I have never read anything by this author but it was a free download and sounded interesting and is a genre that I like. However, it was very unique. A chaplain in a prison with a very unexpected view of God that was very similar to my own beliefs so it was easy to like him right from the start.
The other major and minor characters were all believable and real. I enjoyed the mix of good and evil. The chaplains own struggles to hold on to his faith in the midst of all that and I found myself really seeing and feeling how hard his and real prison chaplains must struggle each and every day. I've read many books that dealt with the inmates, the guards, the lawyers and the wardens-and someone(s)is always corrupt so this was very much a completely different view and I will be reading more of his books.
I could write much more but I think I've made my point. Read it, I don't believe you will be sorry that you did.
This was a very factual story about life and death in a prison. Prisons are brutal places. But the author made it exciting by having the victim be a child who was in a locked room of the prison. I did find it hard to believe that any prison would allow a child into a setting they laid out. Also, the fact that one of the characters had a weapon on his person even though he is required to be checked made some of this story believable. I have served in prisons and know that security is not that loose.
The hero of this story, John Jordan is a flawed minister, a man of God who questions his faith.
The story keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes it difficult to put it down. Some of the ugliness and filth could have been eliminated and the book would still have been good.
This book is a work of fiction that will have you in suspence and you will not be able to put it down. It has murder, suspence and romance. It is well written and flows smoothly. The characters are real and jump off the page. John Jordan is a man of the cloth who has his own frailties. He works in a prison, so he leads a dangerous life of sorts. When a murder is committed on a visitor, he feels he failed this visitor by not protecting her.
I do recommend this book for ages 18 on up. It does contain sex and bad words, but the setting is a jail, so it fits the setting.
John Jordan is a thinker so he sees the consequences of not following rules (like prison-visitor screenings) before they happen. He cares about the victims and the perpetrators of crimes.
He is haunted by his inability to protect people--especially children--from serious crimes.
He is a man of faith who even though he questions it at times, lives it. It is the foundation of most of his actions. He fantasizes about a coworker, but beyond conversations he doesn't act on what would be welcomed by the woman in question. He refrains from a physical relationship because she is married. Some would argue that they both crossed the line with their thoughts, that they were having an emotional affair, but it takes moral strength to not go further.
For the most part the story keeps moving. The language isn't pristine...after all it is set in a prison. There are racially denigrating elements and not entirely from the inmates.
