Emily is such a strong character. I wonder if the author has known someone similar on whom to base Emily. Or maybe his creativity is just superlative.I am glad to see a return to the more emotional, personal Emily in this book. Though I, too, found it difficult to track through the storylines, I had a feeling all would come together — and the author didn’t disappoint me.
Unlike another reviewer, I thoroughly enjoyed Emily’s relationship with “the other man.” He sounded delicious. The relationship was handled with finesse.
This book continues the pattern of honor, which I really appreciate.
OK, Mr. Antoine, I hope teaching isn’t holding you back from producing #8! I’m ready. But I’ll bet your classes, even though they take time away from your writing, are interesting. Your knowledge of the East is impressive.

Always well written with series with strong heroine. Lots of martial arts and military adventure coupled with characters developed over several volumes. Little romance and virtually no sex. Obviously it is violent but never gratuitously or without consequence.

Some proofreading flaws but bearable.
Strangely enough I have read several authors YA books, all about young women attending or not enrolling in a military academy and all the events therein. This story has martial arts, mysticism,,murder,,romance and best if all, a darn good plot.
I had trouble understanding it, so I reread all the lead up books. It really is an excellent addition. Complex and spiritual. A very good follow-up. Now we still need to meet the last player in Em's photo of her father and crew as well as hear Stone speak. I posted and Connie will be back too, I'm sure. Loved reliving the adventure.
I've read this series from the beginning as each book came out I jump on it and read it in one shot. The last book messed me up. The flashback right in the beginning was too far from where the previous book left off it kept me from getting into Emily Kanes world. I put the book down and read several others before trying again. Once past that scene i got into her world and the book was as good as the rest. This one had me from the first word and didn't let go till the end. I lost sleep not being able to put it down. Keep up the good work can't wait for the next book.
I have read all the other books in this series and have love them. This book, however, is not up to the standards of the other books in the series. It lacked the action of the other books, and was much slower paced. Even having read the other books in the series I had a hard to following along the story line in this book, and I suspect it will be near impossible for someone to follow the story line here without having read the other books.
It was Emily. But the fighting was a bit contrived and the suspense was overly drawn out. I'm sad that her time in Nepal doesn't play into her mystery more and I"m sad she sleeps around.
The writing is improved; the storytelling is smoother and more elegant. The story is interesting and her head of state recognition is cool; having gotten to know her through the many books, pride comes to mind. But the story drags and her overcoming events seems more like luck than superhero.
